Bookkeeping in Maine
Monthly close by business day 5, reconciled bank and card accounts, and financials you can hand to a lender without apologising for them.
Maine businesses tend to run lean, and the owners we talk to in Portland, Bangor, Lewiston-Auburn, and Augusta are usually wearing three or four jobs at once — which is exactly when a Maine Revenue Services notice or a missed Maine Paid Family & Medical Leave filing turns into a real distraction. We built our Maine practice around remote delivery from day one: your books close on the same business-day-5 calendar as every other NEXACC client, backed by a named lead accountant who understands Maine's graduated income tax structure, its 5.5% sales tax, and the annual report every Maine LLC and corporation owes the Secretary of State. Maine's economy leans heavily on healthcare systems, seafood and agriculture operations with seasonal cash-flow swings, tourism and hospitality businesses that need clean numbers before and after peak season, and small manufacturers competing on tight margins. We set up new employers correctly with MRS and the Maine Department of Labor, get PFML contributions configured from the first payroll run, and step in when a notice arrives so an audit inquiry doesn't stall your season. If MaineCare billing is part of your practice, we coordinate that alongside your books rather than treating it as a separate vendor relationship.
